The Latest Trouble with Obama

First, let it be known that I am strongly opposed to Obama. I respect the man only because he is our elected leader, and God commands His people to honor those in authority. But, for me, that is where it ends. I strongly disagree with his policies and how he is leading this country.

In my local paper the other day, there was a published article speaking of Obama's plan to allow tax cuts to the poor. He proposes to tax the rich more in order to make up for the taxes that the poor will not have to pay. This is utter nonsense. The rich are being punished for working hard and succeeding. The more they earn, more gets taken away from them. Are we not taught to reward hard work rather than punish it?

This action will not get any more money for the government. It will not get us out of debt. It may sound beneficial in theory, but in reality, it does not work out in real life like it does on paper. When people must give up a larger and larger percentage of what they earn, they stop earning as much because they are allowed to keep less and less of it anyway.

Also, when the government taxes the rich in order to not have to tax the poor as much, communism is the result. Taking from those who earn and giving it to those who do not earn as much is communism, not matter which way you slice it.

Obama, some may say is a Robin Hood...a good-deed-doer. Not so. Instead, Obama is redistributing wealth so that people have no reason to really work hard. We work hard to earn money. If we are not allowed to keep all of our money (or at least a large percentage), why work? Those who do not work or do not make as much money are taught only that not working results in more money from the government. They are taught that the government will take care of their every need. The government, however, does not have the funds to do such...without taking it away from hard-working folks.

Now, don't start thinking that I have no sympathy for the down-and-out. Because I do. I know that many people truly work hard and do not earn much. I truly want to help them and I try to. But the government was not set up to take that role. The people, community, church, and individual organizations may, and hopefully will, but the government cannot...unless we want a welfare state which can only lead to communism.

  1. I totally agree and I believe that the church is the one that needs to stand up on this issue. They need to be in charge of the poor, as instructed in Luke 12:33 "Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys." (As well as other various places)
